“Using my labour and despoiling it are quite different things.” Ladies and gentlemen, Karl Marx sums up all that is wrong with capitalism in one fucking sentence.

10 Year Old Boy Shot in Austin →
derrionsfriends: Jaylen Price lay in his hospital bed Thursday, a bullet lodged in his body and doctors not sure yet whether they will operate on the 10-year-old to remove it.  A 4th grader. Same age as many of the Sandy Hook victims. And virtually no media or press about it.  TEN YEARS OLD. Prayers for a quick recovery, dear Jaylen.

Judith Butler kicking all kinds of knowledge
Those who can and will teach the humanities, languages,or critical thinking may well be understood as a class of workers who are replaceable and disposable. In the US the number of academic workers without secure employment has grown exponentially in recent years. And when state law or union regulations demand that nontenured faculty become eligible for reviews that would establish security of...

a quick procrastination post
May I please spend the summer bathed in sunlight, wearing a sundress, eating fresh healthy foods and poring over old Vibe and Source magazines? Maybe just a handful of days? A vision of myself sitting cross-legged on a blanket in the park while eating fruit and turning pages is just the most divine thing I can picture at the moment.  Six more weeks of school, ladies and gentlemen. Just six more...

College Professor Gives Credence to Rapist... →
fuckyeahfeminists: Sign the petition to get him fired, because this is straight up DANGEROUS considering the epidemic of rape on college campuses that we have a professor taking the time to write out about justifying rape. From the petition page: In a shocking March 20 blog post titled “Censorship, Environmentalism and Steubenville,” University of Rochester economics professor Steven Landsburg...

Vote to support a Boys & Girls Club summer reading...
The critical benchmark for a child’s academic success is their reading proficiency. Thus, our unmet community need is to encourage all children, especially those who need us the most, to become great readers. Boys & Girls Clubs of America is rolling out a new program this summer, called the Summer Reading Initiative. BGCA is preparing learning modules for summer programs at Boys...

At the end o this semester I may very well burn my copy of Karl Marx’s Capital Vol. 1. Thumbs up for the thoughtfulness of the theory. Thumbs ALL THE WAY DOWN for super long run on sentences in coded academic language translated from a 150 year old German text. THE CONCEPTS ARE SO SIMPLE BUT THE WORDING IS SO COMPLETELY FUCKED AND I KNOW I SHOULD PROBABLY START CENSORING MYSELF ON SOCIAL NETWORKS...

Beating back the anxiety monster today with lots of positive thoughts and productivity. If all of my affairs are in order (i.e. schoolwork, blog content, workshop project) then I have no reason to be anxious and the monster is defeated. Anxiety bites. I bite back.

What’s it like inside a factory farm? If the livestock and meat industries have their way, what little view we have inside the walls of these animal-reviewing facilities may soon be obscured. For the second year in a row, the industry is backing bills in various statehouses that would criminalize undercover investigations of livestock farms. Because, you know, there’s nothing shady...

i thought of you, while in the shower and i thought of how nice it’d be to have your things among my things along the bathtub’s edge and i imagined myself running out of soap and using yours and wearing you to work, and the grocery store and i imagined that night, laying down beside you and smelling your neck and finding out where all my soap had gone

Science: These Exploding Droplets of Glass Are a... →
Making a Prince Albert’s Rupert’s drop is easy; you just let some molten glass drip into a bucket of water. But the resulting structure is so much more complex than the process that made it. So flipping cool. I love when science is fun.

April is coming.
Including today there are 10 days left in March. This year is officially broken in and one quarter of it is just about over. I’m having the best semester of my college career and my writing continues to improve. Creative Kin is growing and I’m thrilled. Being back in Chicago has been marvelous apart from the mostly miserable weather, and I know that Spring will be in full swing sooner than later...
